Last night the radar showed lots of movement coming in from the Bahamas and Cuba. Migrants were entering the radars early in the night; most of the birds flew right over the south. Some late activity was picked up by the radar that shows birds making their way into the Key Largo area and maybe further south along the keys. We expect Key Largo to have some new faces; Carrysfort Circle, KL Botanical and Card Sound Bridge may be your best bet. The shores of Florida Bay may be holding a good concentration of shorebirds, shorebirds are on the move and the late activity this morning could have been shorebirds. If anyone is out on Fl Bay it may be worth a trip along the shoreline, maybe a rarity is out there somewhere. Miami radar did pick up some birds coming in off the Atlantic; a good portion of the migrants can be seen flying into and away from the radar. The base velocity animation (green/red) shows birds as they enter and leave the radar, as birds come into the radar they appear as green targets and red as the fly away from the radar. Some migrants came in later in the morning and may have chosen to land for the day; there could be some late morning activity at inland migrant traps. The central belt of the state is where most of the birds made it to, with a good number of birds continuing on their way into the northeast portion of the state. The front that passed through north of Florida last night may have caused birds to pile up along the state line, as birds were not seen taking off at sunset. Migrants are on the move and this seems like it may be the beginning to the end of the spring migration. Good Birding and have a great end to the week.
All sightings posted to Badbirdz2 are greatly appreciated!
