  1. Today we did a little birding around Miramar and Pembroke Pines. We were in search of shorebirds today but none were to be found. The only shorebirds we saw were resident Kildeer which was nice but disappointing. A stop at a Miramar development that has a nice marsh yielded some P. Gallinules one which was tending to her babies, the usual Herons and an Osprey with it’s catch. At the marsh we noticed a small duck which was noticeably smaller than the Mottled and Mallards around, next we noticed the bird diving. We took a closer look at it appears to be a female Blue-winged Teal, early migrant? We bird the spot often and have not seen this duck before today. A flock of Barn Swallow flew overhead giving us quick looks, we have not seen Barns in a while. The day ended with a Limpkin by the canals edge, good way to finish the day. On our way home we spotted Purple Martins by the roost that has been holding thousands of birds in the last month. There were an estimated 150-200 Purple Martins streaming overhead.
