Migrants Moving Into Florida!

After a quick look at the radar and the wind charts it looks as if birds are headed into Florida tonight. Miami radar is picking up returns with birds even heading out over the bay into the Keys chain. Farther up the state there is a chance of some good birding in the morning as rain showers have blanketed Hardee, Manatee and Hillsborough Counties as birds are flying over. Hopefully birds stop for us down here, with slight SW winds coastal locations may hold more birds.

  1. There was a big influx of shorebirds late yesterday on Virginia Key. I picked up 14 species, with good numbers, so these guys are on the move. Wed. I had 36 Uppies and 2 BBSA on a sod farm in SC so next weekends’s shorebird trip should be great. I had a few migrants at the Cape yesterday: OVEN (3), AMRE (3), NOPA (2), PRAW (6), YTWA (2), LOWA, BTBW, GCFL and BGGN’s. Banding was slow (2 OVEN) and MIDA’s been closing at 11. Nice find on the KEWA!
