Another night of west winds have brought more birds to our hood; Miami. Be on the lookout for species not commonly seen during spring down here. Bay-breasted and Chestnut-sided Warbler are two species that may end up in our area courtesy of the westerly winds. Birds appeared to have overshot the coast and were aloft out over the Atlantic towards the end of the SE mosaic loop. These birds would have to fly back to the mainland and may concentrate in some decent numbers for this time of year. We expect these birds to have landed north of Miami. Spring migrant traps such as Evergreen Cemetery or Birch SP may be great spots to look for these birds. In any event it is still worth a check around traps in Miami such as Cape FL. We will be checking out our local spots today if we have time after work. This morning we were greeted by a Blackpoll; new yard bird! This usually means that there are migrants around to be found, our apartment parking lot isn’t quite the best spot to see warblers.

There was also some activity on the Melbourne and Jacksonville radar last night and this morning. You should be able to pick out some migrants from the Treasure Coast to the First Coast today. We won’t leave out the Nature Coast as we expect some wind blown birds to be around today. If you are in any of these areas let us know what you are seeing out there; it would be much appreciated.

Please share your sightings with us and the rest of the radar ornithology community that visit the site daily. Hope you all have a great day and finds some nice birds while out doing the rounds today.

Nature is Awesome,
Angel and Mariel
