Migrants are becoming increasingly restless and are feeling the Zugunruhe. Last night a vigorous front was making its way across Alabama and into Florida’s panhandle. This area could be a fruitful birding spot this AM with the amount of precipitation that this front features. If birds were aloft and flew into the face of the storm you can expect to find them grounded and resting from the long and dangerous flight.

The rest of the state however was more off an exit show. More birds leaving the area than coming in. Key West radar was interesting, we are still trying to decipher the images to determine whether the pulses recorded were birds or other biota. Looking at velocity images we do recognize that birds were aloft but how much of the returns were really birds is a bit harder to tell from the messy radar image. Any help from our readers would be great, we are hoping that some of you can tell us if birds arrived in your area today. Winds were shifting from the S-SW to N-NNE in the lower half of the state which could be conducive with making birds appear. If migrants did not feel the need to push through a headwind they may have chosen to land. Get out and look in your favorite migrant traps and see what is around. As always we hope to hear back from our readers to find out what is moving and when. You the reader are a big part of Badbirdz and we can’t thank you guys enough.

    • looks like some birds came in today according to Miami radar. This weekend should be good! Conditions are lining up nicely 🙂
